If you are a senior, have disabilities or live with someone that does, you may be eligible for remodeling assistance through BC Housing. To Qualify for HAFI, homeowners must have:

  • Permanent disability or diminished ability
  • Canadian citizenship and permanent BC residency
  • Assets less than $100,000
  • Income within the Housing Limit Income
  • Home valued below the Home Value Limit

More specific requirements, as well as the application form can be found at: http://www.bchousing.org/Options/Home_Renovations/Homeowners/Eligibility

Also on the BC Housing website are a list of modifications that can be financed through HAFI. They include:

  • Accessibility inside and outside the dwelling
  • Electrical
  • Plumbing
  • Kitchen
  • Bathroom
  • Heating, Ventilation, Cooling

How Much Can I Get?

Homeowners can apply for up to $20,000 worth of work, with a forgiveness period of up to 3 years; so long as the dwelling is occupied by the owner for that time, the grant does not need to be repaid.

How ORCA HealthCare Can Help ?

ORCA HealthCare specializes in bathroom modifications specifically designed for senior or disabled access. These include low threshold or wheelchair accessible showers, walk-in or slide-in tubs, and tub cut modifications. As part of your application, you must include written estimates of the proposed work, which we would be happy to provide.

These funds are on a first-come-first-serve basis starting in April of every year until the money runs out.

  1. So it looks like I’m not qualified for these grants, because I pay more than my share of income tax, but at the same time I don’t mind seeing my money going to help the seniors, especially those that have some form of handicap. signed a working senior
